Should Sangguniang Kabataan in Philippines be abolished?

  1. SK should be strengthened, not abolished.

Many have been seriously skeptic on the importance of SK,that even President Gloria Macapagal–Arroyo herself once said "I think it's a good idea," “Scrap that Useless Thing,” since much resources and energy were given but no result had been fulfilled.

I, as brother of sk chairman in our barangay, I really can say that “it is doing more harm than good” instead of harnessing their ideals by involving the youths in their communities, “exposing them to politics at such an early age only corrupts them.” like what my kuya experienced!

However, I believe that despite of the many flaws of the present structure of the SK, it is one of the most relevant youth participation in building a strong Nation.
Sk should be reformed by: the age bracket should be from 15 to 17 to 15-21 and age qualification bracket of SK officials is to 18-21; Increase relevant trainings of the SK which focuses on their functions as SK officials.

Well, there are tendecies that someday no one can become a good leader because when we are young our capability in facilitating in our community has been controlled.

  8. aHhmm!!
i think the SK or sangguniang kabataan should not be abolished because that is for the youth, and the purpose of that is to know what is the meaning of responsible leader, to have a freedom to say their opinions and suggestions. because i know that the youth is the key to our country to to have a wonderful future.if the youth will not trained they might become a bad individual so we must agree the sangguniang kabataan election for the seek of our country and to mold them into a better person. . . :)

  9. NO. Definitely Not.

I could not think of abolishing the most democratic way of exercising freedom for young citizens! Our country is predominantly "young" in population, let us not deprive the young people's right for governance, participation in nation building, and exercise in critical thinking, check and balance and management. We have to consider the youth power.

By trick, the young is endangered to be silenced out. When the little or big corruption connected to some activities and committed mostly by adults is used to smear the image of the young leaders, it is time to evaluate what crisis management ability this nation has, or whether it is really sincere in clean and cooperative nation-building.

The SK could do a lot more if you give them their due training and education to uphold a responsible and working government. Remove the corrupt examples, adult leaders and officials who teach the young disgusting principles.

I think the idea of abolishing the “Sangguniang Kabataan” is some kind of a foolish one. Let us protect and value the importance of the roles of the youth in our government. Everyone deserves a second chance. Let us not judge them right away.

Let us just keep on supporting and guiding our youth.

We all know that the youth is the hope of our nation. We should not abolish their right to cooperate on building our nation’s success.

  10. Good evening. For me, SK should be abolished. Why? because politicians are just using them and it become a training ground for corruption. Hmmmp!

  11. I precisely, absolutely, definitely agree SK is unnecessary. Basta.

  12. But SK has its good intentions like getting the youth involved with the community more and empowering them to drive some innovation.
I think there just need to be some improvements with it.

  13. For me, Sangguniang kabataan is good because since they are young they will trained about leadership. If they have experience since they were young, it is possible to them to handle the problems about community, because they trained to handle it. just like what Jose Rizal said "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan". So while we are young we have to gather experiences and knowledge about politics so that the corruption may not exist.

  14. We all know how important SK is, so why we have to abolish it? SK helps the Philippines in many ways, they help if there are feeding and cleaning programs in our barangays. Like during election, they do their part as observers and they choose well the good leaders.SK Philippines influences the other youth to do good jobs in our country.

  15. So,instead of putting it away, the SK Philippines,we must help it to enlighten and encourage them more to continue their responsibilities in our own and beloved country, the Philippines.

  16. The Sanguniang Kabataan should not be abolish instead we need to collaborate to have a good foundation of youth. I am idealistic, a voice of youth, and a promise of achievement still to come. My hands are special gifts and talents. I am the source of my dreams in my nation, to have a better nation. The youth is the promise of the future and I believe in it. "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan" that was Dr. Jose Rizal said. Means that the success and having good future depends on the hands of the youth who carefully handle their responsibilities and have their initiative. Listen before you judge the youth, we feel deeply and have reasons. We won't learn to walk alone, we need to cooperation and presence of the old people. Give us the courage to take chances, to know if we fall are not alone.

  18. Instead of abolishing it,the sangguniang kabataan, should strengthened to make it an effective venue of youth participation in governance. It is very disappointing that the s.k is now being regarded as a mere dispensable expense more than a vehicle for youth in nation building,...

    ReplyDelete
  19. DEFINITELY NOT!!!!

I disagree that the Sangguniang Kabataan should be abolished. Because in the first place SK is very important to us especially to the youth.

SK is the one who helped in our barangays.
And it has a good intentions because they helped, if there are some programs that been held in our barangay, like feeding program, garbage segregation and planting trees.

So instead of abolishing it, we should strengthened it and continue of what they've done.

  20. For me sir we should not abolished SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN because SK is important for all young people and it is a unity of young people to help others and any activities ,we all should know that young people is our HOPE so that for me we should Not abolished SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN.

  21. Sangguniang kabataan should not be abolished because they are also helping the barangays to be progressive such as, make an activities so that people in the barangay will be united, "lega ng barangay" to help the youth improved their skills especially in sports, planting trees, and etc.
And instead of abolishing it, we should support their activities and encourage them to be more active.

  22. I think Sangguniang Kabataan should not be abolished because as a member of it, its true that they commit mistakes but to abolished is not considerable to me. SK is very helpful for our youth, they are our model for us to become good citizens and countrymen. Even though they are just young but they're trying to make their responsibilities perfectly.

We should support them for them to grow and do their responsibilities. If possible, we should have to make an workshop or federation for them to know more about what they need to do.

SK has already done many good things in our country and their is no reason to abolished it right away. They are helping our environment to be more beautiful by planting trees and they had already facilitated many activities such as ball games and searches.

So I must say that SK should not be abolished because their doing there best to do their duty, to love GOD and their country, also there youth association.

  23. It is not necessary to abolish the Sangguniang Kabataan because they are important to our nation. SK is the one who lead and support for what is right especially to our youth today. The Sangguniang Kabataan should provide many good things in our country..

SANGGUNIANG KABATAAN is the hope of our nation...

    ReplyDelete
  24. NO! because SK is a training or challenge to the youth to become independent and how to handle the responsibility of being a good leader.

  25. YOUTH are the hope of the NATION - as our national hero Dr. JOSE RIZAL said. As a youth, we also have our right to govern our country. Through the SK Program we can serve our country. So, SK should not be abolished because it is our way to show that we can also have the power to help our country better and onward. It will also train the youth to become a good leader someday. A future leader with a great ideas, and only looking for a better PHILIPPINES.

  26. --The Sangguniang Kabataan is the youth legislature in every local village or community. They initiate policies, programs and projects for the development of youth in their respective political territories. The Philippines is so far, the only country in the world which has given its youth the opportunity to take a participative role in government through the SK.
No.the SK should not be abolished because they are the future leader of our country.Through this program the youth are prepared and have the knowledge to govern our country.

  27. Absolutely NO!!!! Sir,

If we abolish the "sangguniang kabataan", there will be no youth to be developed as a good leader in the future. Youth also have responsibilities to manage our country. That's why we don't have the right to say that "Sangguniang kabataan" should be abolished.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sangguniang Kabataan should not be abolished.

Why? it's because they are the one who leads the youth how to speak out of what they want in the community. They are doing how to promulgate and carry out resolutions for the good of the youth in their barangay. And they are also trying their best to work with other youth organizations and other national agencies for the implementations of projects for the youth.

Every barangay should have an SK composed of chairman,a secretary,a treasurer, and seven other members.
They are expected to hold office for three years.

An elective official of the SK must be a citizen of the Philippines,15 to 21 years of age, and duly registered in the barangay where they are running.
